What "exclusive" should mean when you buy a lead
Almost every lead seller uses the word. It is worth knowing exactly what you are being told, because it often means less than it sounds like.
The three things it can mean
Sold once, to one buyer, ever — the strong version, and the only one that matters.
Sold to one buyer per area — meaning the same seller may go to somebody else outside your radius, which is fine right up until your radius overlaps.
Sold to a limited number of buyers — "shared" leads with a nicer word attached. Common in home services lead generation and increasingly common in this industry.
Questions worth asking any seller of leads
How many buyers can receive this lead? If the answer is not "one", it is a shared lead whatever it is called.
Does it get resold if I do not close it? A lead recycled after thirty days is not exclusive, it is leased.
Can I see the lead before I pay? If not, you are being asked to trust a grade somebody else assigned.

If a lead does not sell, does it get resold later?
A lead that has never been bought stays available — that is not reselling, nobody has had it. What does not happen is a lead being sold to you and then sold again to somebody else.
Can I see the lead before buying it?
You see the conversation, the market and the list type before you pay. The seller’s name and phone number unlock when you claim it.
